Vhay Lake Bloomfield Hills – Lake homes Vhay Lake Bloomfield Hills Michigan

The lake is about 14 acres in size.  So if you do not know what size that is.....it is a small lake.  More of a pond than a lake.  Good for fishing, kayaking, and paddling around on.  It is a private lake and not big enough to put a power boat or a jet ski on.  If water has a calming effect on you then Vhay Lake in Bloomfield Hills may be a place to find your next luxury home.

Another exquisite home on the lake. Not for sale

The lake is located east of Woodward Ave along the area where Long Lake Road starts curving around.  Vhay Lake is southeast of Long Lake Road after Kensington Road and before Eastways.   All the roads around the lake are paved.  The waterfront homes on the lake are on city sewer and water.  The children on the lake go to Bloomfield Hills school.

A quiet day on the lake

I would call it more of an exclusive luxury estate home lake.  You will find larger custom built luxury lake homes that sit on lots ranging from 3/4 of an acre to over 24 acres.  There is one home that was built in 1832 and sits on 24 acres.  There is another home that sits on 12 acres.  So you may be able to find your little piece of private paradise just a short drive to Woodward or I-75.  Most of the homes were built from the 1920's, 1950's all the way up to 2005.   There are about 25 homes on Vhay Lake in Bloomfield Hills.

Would you like this view from your patio or deck?

Here are some of the lake house characteristics

     *  3 to 8 bathrooms

     *  3 to 6 bedrooms

     *  2 to 5 car garages

     *  2900 square feet to over 10,0000 square feet

Some of the older homes are on slabs and crawl spaces, but others have basements (some walkout).  There is a historic tudor on the lake, and the 1832 home is more of a cape cod.  But there are also ranch homes, colonial homes, and contemporary homes.

Of course this information above is not perfect.  I gathered this home information from sold listings the last 20 years.  Some people have lived on the lake for longer than 20 years so I have no information on their homes.  This compilation may be off because one of the homes that has not sold may be bigger, small, older, or have different features.  Some of the smaller lakefront homes may have been torn down and do not exist anymore.  Also a new house may have been built on the lake that does not show up.  The house information is just to give you a general idea of the lake homes.

Wow is the word for this view

Bloomfield Hills is just a small city that is only about five square miles in size.  It is completely surrounded by Bloomfield Township.  Much of the city is residential and known for being a prestigious city.  It has many large estate style homes and luxurious mansions in beautiful settings.  Many of the homes are on larger lots and surrounded by mature tall trees.  Only about eight percent of the city is water.  There are only a few named lakes in the area.  They are Vhay Lake, Lake Placid, Endicott Lake, Kern Lake, Shorewood Lake (a small part of it lies in the city and Kingswood Lake that lies in the Cranbrook School grounds.  The lake homes are high-end and exclusive.  They are similar in that they are all private, non all sports lakes that are pond like lakes or very little lakes.  So they do not offer boating or activities like tubing, or skiing.  However there are many other ways to indulge in various types of waterfront living such as swimming, fishing, and wildlife watching.  Living on any size lake makes life a little better.  Something about being near water gives the home owners happiness.

If you are looking for space, or privacy there are a few Bloomfield lakes and West Bloomfield Lakes that have beautiful custom built lake homes on them.  When you need a guide to the local lakes....a realtor that will work hard to find your home and negotiate hard for you then give me a call at (248) 310-6239.

"Making your next move easier"

Here is a little history of the lake from Bloomfield Historical society

"A 1920s Hammond estate home called Hillwood, which is still standing today at Vhay Lake.  Edward P. Hammond acquired the 82 acres of property in the southeast corner of Kensington Rd. and E. Long Lake Rd. in November 1921. The summer estate that he built there consisted of: the spacious manor house, a very large stable with adjacent blacksmith shop, as well as houses for the chauffeur, stable master, and caretaker. A few years after Hammond died in 1940 the estate was subdivided into the Hillwood Estates Subdivision and the manor house, stable, and all three houses for the staff were converted into private residences. Recently, however, two of the staff houses were torn down to make room for newer structures — the caretaker’s cottage in 2004 and the chauffeur’s house in 2009. The stablemaster’s cottage sold recently for $1 million."  To read more history go to https://www.bloomfieldhistoricalsociety.org/

Pine Lake in West Bloomfield is a private all sports lake is 395 acres in size.  The deepest point is 90 feet.  Waterfront homes for sale on Pine Lake in West Bloomfield are usually more plentiful during the late spring, summer, and early fall months.  During the winter months many home sellers pull their lake homes off the market.  If you are thinking of listing your lake home give me a call.  We will take the time to go over how to prepare your lake house for sale, and what your home is worth.

I have many clients that ask me what are the depths and sizes of Bloomfield Lakes?  There are many Oakland County lakes that are relatively shallow ranging from 7 to 12 feet.  I have lived on a 10' deep lake and never had any issues.  In fact the lake I live on (White Lake) is shallow.  Much of the lake is 8-10 feet deep.  Being a shallow Iake hasn't caused people to hurt themselves boating or skking.
