West Bend Lake in Bloomfield Township is also called Shorewood Lake. I don’t know where or how part of Shorewood Lake became to also be called West Bend Lake. It shows up in the real estate/ MLS listings as both West Bend Lake and Shorewood Lake. Neither Google Maps or Bing maps bring up West Bend Lake or Shorewood Lake. So I guess West Bend Lake and Shorewood Lake are one and the same. West Bend Lake is just part of Shorewood Lake.
The main part of Shore wood Lake is shaped like a “H”. The lake does go under Shore Hill Drive. The lake on the east side of the lake is like a “c”. Almost a full circle. It is a very narrow lake. You could definitely swim across the lake if you were a decent swimmer. This is one of the lakes that I was struck by the beauty of the lake and the homes on it. Some people for some reason also call part of the lake West Bend Lake. So you may hear the smaller part of the lake called West Bend Lake.
When buying a lake home in SE Michigan County you should know what negatively affects the price. Of course the normal stuff like high tension wires, house on a main road, or close to a business. But when buying a lake home parking sometimes comes into play, but the two main issues are type of lake bottom and is there vegetation in the lake. Sandy bottom homes sell quicker and fetch more money as do lake homes that do not have lily pads or lake grasses in the in front of the house. However there is no way to put a specific dollar amount on these items. It just slows the sale and homes that are sandy bottom sometimes get a little more money.

The lake is east of Middlebelt Road and north of Long Lake. It is east of Pine Lake, west of Wabeek Lake, south of Lower Long Lake. The roads around the lake are paved. The main school system is Bloomfield Hills though a few homes are in the Avondale School district. It just depends where you live on the lake. The lake is about 15 acres in size. The lake meanders through the Shorewood Hills Subdivision. There are about 80 homes in the subdivision. All the homes have lake access through a subdivision beach. There are no powercraft allowed on the lake. The subdivision is ideal for walking pets, taking a leisurely walk, and biking. Shorewood Lake is popular for fishing, kayaking, paddle boarding, and ice skating.

The majority of the lake homes are on sewers though some are on a common septic. The majority of the waterfront homes are also on community well. The homes were built during the years of 1959 to 2001. The big part of the lake lies in West Bloomfield and the smaller part of the lake lies in Bloomfield Hills.
I would bet the fishing is good on the lake

* Number of Bedrooms range from 3 to 5
* Number of bathrooms from 2 to 6
* 2 to 4 car garages
* Square footage ranges from 2100 square feet to over 4700 square feet ( I know there are some even larger, but they have not sold in a while
* Many of the homes have basements and many of them are walkout
As the home owners association says “it is an oasis in the suburbs, the lake, woods and wetlands support a wide variety of birds and other wildlife”.
Of course this information above is not perfect. I gathered this home information from sold listings the last 20 years. Some people have lived on the lake for longer than 20 years so I have no information on their homes. This compilation may be off because one of the homes that has not sold may be bigger, small, older, or have different features. Some of the smaller lakefront homes may have been torn down and do not exist anymore. Also a new house may have been built on the lake that does not show up. The house information is just to give you a general idea of the lake homes.

The setting for Shorewood Lake homes are almost an up north feel with the mature trees. There are many different styles of waterfront homes from ranches, colonials, contemporary, and split level homes. The lot sizes range from what I would call a normal lots size up to an acre in size.

You are out of your home and have a bigger chance of meeting or talking with neighbors. Simply being out of the house to look at the lake gets you a little fresh and a relaxing feeling.
