Green Lake in W Bloomfield is Oakland County’s largest non all sports lake. It is about a 100 acres in size and only allows electric motors on the lake. So there is no noisy jet ski’s, or jet boats. No large wakes from speeding boats. Nobody racing around the lake pulling tubers or skiers early in the morning or late in the evening. Just a calm, quiet lake without boat noise. You will see more sailboats, kayaks, paddle boats, and paddle boards out on the lake. Of course you will lake resident slowly going by on their electric motor pontoon boat. Of course electric motor rowboats are allowed too.
Plus it is a private lake too! So you don’t have fishermen coming to fish from off the lake. Fishing is good because there is no boating pressure on the lake. Green Lake homes are highly desirable for several reasons. First of all it is in West Bloomfield with West Bloomfield Schools and Walled Lake Schools. Good schools and good teachers are always high on relocation buyers lists. You will find low crime, and a good police force too.

Most of the roads around the lake are paved. Most of the homes on the lake are on city water and sewer, though there are still some that are on well and septic. You will find that most of the homes on the lake are being remodeled or being rebuilt. West Bloomfield’s Green Lake homes are in such high demand that most of the old cottages are gone. They have been remodeled, added on to, or torn down to build a luxury estate home. Or bigger contemporary or colonial custom homes.

One winter when our real estate market was slower I poured through the old MLS listings to gather the waterfront home data. There may have been some homes that have been torn down that is included in this data. Other homes may have been built and others lake homes that have not sold in the last 20 years so I was not able to be 100% accurate because of this missing information. This is just to give you a insight into what the lake houses are like.

There are very few of what I would call cottages on the lake. Most of the lake homes are year round homes. Many of the homes are level with the lake. Though some sit up on a small hillside. Not a lot of steps. In fact some of them only have a slight slope. If you don’t know this the higher you are above a lake the better the lake view. When buying a lake home it is important to know whether your property goes up to the lake or if an association, or subdivision owns the lake frontage. There are quite a few lakes that homes that have this situation. I suggest to you as a home buyer to get a survey done. If you can afford a staked survey I would do that to make sure you know your lot lines and corners of the property. It may cost anywhere from $800 to $2000 depending on the property. On any property over $500,000 I think it is a small insurance policy that you should not do without.

If you like what you have read on Green Lake then you may like other lakes in the area. Haines Lake homes in Bloomfield MI are going to be on a smaller lake than Green. Much, much smaller lake. On the opposite end of the spectrum is public all sports Union Lake. It is about 465 acres in size. Many of the Lake homes on Union Lake in West Bloomfield have been updated, remodeled, or made bigger.
If you are looking for a quieter lake then you may like Forest Lake homes in Bloomfield Township Michigan. The lake connects to non all sports lake Lower Long Lake which connects to all sports Upper Long Lake. So you have the best of both worlds. Quiet on your lake, but the ability to water ski or tube if you want to. Lakefront homes on Upper Straits Lake are changing too. The lake is so desirable that many of the smaller homes have been torn down over the years to make way for newer, bigger homes. Even on small lots you will see this happening. If you do not care about the size of the lake or that is an all sports lake then be sure to look at homes for sale on Orange Lake Bloomfield MI. It is only 33 acres in size, but it has some great sunsets.
