Pine Lake is a big private all sports lake in West Bloomfield. I really like the lake because it is not round. It has a large peninsula on the lake that splits the lake in two. So you can’t see the other side of the lake when you are on the other side of the peninsula. Pine Lake Country Club is on the lake and has been since around since 1902. It has 18-Hole Championship Golf Course, newly updated Indoor and Outdoor Tennis Courts, Olympic Size Swimming Pool, state of the art Fitness Center, a clubhouse, a Lounge, Lake Room, Formal Dining Room and Members Grill. The clubhouse overlooks Pine Lake. Pine Lake Country Club was originally the Automobile Club of Detroit (started in 1902). Some of the early members were John Dodge, Ransom Olds, Henry Ford, Ray Chapin, E.P.Hammond, W.C.Hartman and James Couzens.
Let’s go boating
All sports lake Pine Lake is 395 acres in size and is about 90 feet deep in the deepest spot. It was a glacial formed lake. With 11 miles of shoreline, Pine Lake is considered a mid-sized Michigan lake. Like so many of Oakland County Lake is was a big treat and fun to take a “vacation” out to an Oakland County Lake. Pine Lake was no different than many of the others in the area. It could take hours to get from Detroit because of the dirt roads. A heavy rain sometimes made a muddy mess and made travelers trip even harder. In 1905 when the north boundary of Detroit was not too many blocks beyond Vernor Highway, driving a car to the wilds of Pine Lake in West Bloomfield was a major adventure. The beautiful bluff overlooking the lake became a favorite overnight camp site for practically every Detroiter who owned a car.

Pine Lake is located East of Orchard Lake Rd and North of Long Lake Rd. There is a marina on the lake that has ski lesson and wakeboard lessons. It is a great place to start learning if you have never done it before. On two sections of the lake the lake houses are not directly on the lake. Many lake homes on Orchard Lake Road and Pine Lake Road sit across the road. So you have to cross busy Orchard Lake Road to get to the water. Pine Lake Road is much slower and easier to cross. On both streets there is usually a small strip of land by the water for the home owners to use.

There are condos on Pine Lake. The condos are on paved roads, on city sewer and water. The school districts for the condos on the lake are West Bloomfield and Bloomfield Hills. This is one of the few big all sports lakes in Oakland County that have condos and lake access. The condos have:
- 2 car garages
- 3-5 bathrooms
- 2-5 bedrooms
- built during the years 1970 – 2000
- Most of them have basements, some walkout
- 2200 to over 4900 square feet

The lakefront homes on Pine Lake in West Bloomfield have three different school districts depending on where you live on the lake. Pontiac school district, West Bloomfield school district, Bloomfield Hills school district are the three school districts. Some of the homes are still on wells others are on municipal water. Some waterfront are on septic systems and others are on city sewers. There are fewer and fewer of the old lake cottages left on the lake because they are being torn down or being remodeled.

I would say the majority of the lakefront homes on Pine Lake are over 3000 square feet. You will find many luxury custom built lake estates on Pine Lake. Many of the old cottages have been added onto. I don’t know if there are any homes under a 1000 square foot left on the lake. There is one historic Victorian home that was built in the 1860’s still on the lake. If you are looking for an upper end lake with bigger beautiful lake homes then Pine Lake in West Bloomfield may be for you.

There are a few golf communities and 35 lake communities in Bloomfield. However there is just one lake and golf communities in Bloomfield. Condos on Heathers Lake in Bloomfield combines them both. When buying a lake home it is important to know whether your property goes up to the lake or if an association, or subdivision owns the lake frontage. There are quite a few lakes that homes that have this situation. I suggest to you as a home buyer to get a survey done. If you can afford a staked survey I would do that to make sure you know your lot lines and corners of the property. It may cost anywhere from $800 to $2000 depending on the property. On any property over $500,000 I think it is a small insurance policy that you should not do without.
