Wing Lake is a private non all sports lake located in Bloomfield Township. It is about 108 acres in size which makes it a big non all sports lake just like Green Lake in West Bloomfield. The township has it at 110.7 acres in size. They say it is about 90 feet in the deepest spot and averages about 14 deep. They also say that the shoreline is about 2 miles long, but that must include the long bay/canal that runs off the south end of the lake. You can see the lake from Franklin Rd. It is east of Franklin Rd and north of Maple Rd. Walnut Lake Road dead ends into the lake on the west side of the lake.
All the homes are on municipal water for those of you that do not like well water. Many Oakland County lake homes are still on well water but not many Bloomfield lake homes. Many of the homes are on sewers though there are still some homes that the septic systems are still working. When they fail then the home owners will be forced to hook up to the sewers. The children on the lake go to Bloomfield Hills schools which is one of the top school districts in the state. Don't let these pictures fool you. Most of the lake is open and not full of lilly pads.
Yes there are areas on the lake that are full of lily pads which is good for fishing. Because Wing Lake is a non all sports lake there are only electric motor only pontoons and fishing boats on the lake. Of course, kayaks, sail boats, paddle boards, canoes, and paddle boats are allowed too. Sometimes lily pads grow and take over areas of non all sports lakes. Lily pads do not like water going over the top of the leaves. That happens on waves created on all sports lakes. You do not get waves or wake from electric motor boats so sometimes lily pads grow more in quiet areas of the lake.
These are two of the lake access beachs for nearby subdivisions. It is still a private lake with very little boat traffic. It is a calm serene place to swim and relax at.
Wing Lake houses are highly sought after. They are mainly year round homes. There might be a couple of lake homes that people use as weekend getaways. There are many different styles of homes on the lake. Like most of Oakland County lakes many of the old homes have been torn down, added on to, or remodeled. Here are some of the basic characteristics of Wing Lake homes in Bloomfield Township:
* Built mainly during the years of 1917 to 2015
* Lake lots vary from regular size lots to over 2 1/2 acres
* Number of bedrooms range from 2 to 6
* Number of bathrooms range from 2 to 8
* 2 to 7 car garages
* 1500 square foot homes to over 8400 square foot homes
Does sunset view affect the price of a home? Not really. Lake frontage affects the price more. Of course the larger the lot and the wider the frontage the more the property is worth. Sometimes a small old house will be bought, just to be torn down because the value is in the land.
Of course this information above is not perfect. I gathered this home information from sold listings the last 20 years. Some people have lived on the lake for longer than 20 years so I have no information on their homes. This compilation may be off because one of the homes that has not sold may be bigger, small, older, or have different features. Some of the smaller lakefront homes may have been torn down and do not exist anymore. Also a new house may have been built on the lake that does not show up. The house information is just to give you a general idea of the lake homes.

One of the big reasons lake homes in West Bloomfield, Bloomfield Hills, and Bloomfield Township are the school systems. Bloomfield Hills, Birmingham, and West Bloomfield are good schools. So long as the school systems are excellent the demand for the homes in the school district will be strong. When there is low crime, and great schools home buyers want to live there. It is the same way with lake homes. It determines price. For example there are some lakes in the area that have Pontiac Schools and some that are Bloomfield Hills schools. The homes in the Pontiac School district are harder to sell and sell for less than the others in Bloomfield. It is the same way with Waterford and West Bloomfield schools. Schools do make a difference. Should you not buy a house in a lesser school district? Not if you love the house ...just be aware how it will affect you. Just do not use the same comps for the good side of the lake for the lesser side
If you want to live in a gated subdivision on a lake then you should look at homes on Minnow lake in Bloomfield or on Hidden Lake in the same subdivision. There are very few gated subdivisions on lakes in Oakland County. The homes on Minnow Lake are going to be custom built homes. It is not a large lake. Sodon Lake in Oakland County is one of those lakes that give you the up north feeling. There are so many big mature trees around the lake that you feel like you are near Traverse City. It is a small lake like Cross Lake in West Bloomfield. Click here for more information on Cross Lake and the homes on the lake. Indepth data and photos of the lake and homes.
