This West Bloomfield lake list is pretty comprehensive. I went out and took pictures of all of them in October one year. Other pictures I have taken from listings I have had, or when I was showing houses on the lakes. Over the years I have been out on most of them with lake home buyer clients, so I have gotten to know them very well. Cass Lake is Oakland Counties’ largest lake at 1280 acres and only partially lies in the township. Then you have little pond/lakes like Sagamore Lake that is barely a 1/3 to 1/2 acre in size. Sagamore Lake is so small that I almost feel you could hop, skip, and jump across it.
Some of these so called lakes are really ponds. These ponds are really only good for nature watching, maybe a little fishing, or you can paddle around on them. Most of the pond/lakes are not good for swimming because they are either shallow or mucky. You will notice some of them will have fountains or bubblers in them to keep the lake from becoming stagnant and algae filled.
Several of the larger lakes only partially lie in West Bloomfield.
- Cass Lake also lies in Keego Harbor, and Waterford
- Union Lake partially lies in Commerce Township
- Orchard Lake has a few homes in West Bloomfield
Of course when looking at homes on this West Bloomfield Lake list you will soon realize that most of them are not going to have cottages on them. They are mainly year round lake homes. The majority of West Bloomfield lake homes are going to be over 2000 square foot. Not to say there are not smaller ones, but they are in the smaller minority. You will find many beautiful luxury estate lake homes too. Some of them ranging from 6000 to over 10,000 square feet. So you will have a wide choice of West Bloomfield lake houses if you are in the $400,000 to over a million dollar range.
You will find homes mainly ranging from the 1950’s all the way up to the present day. You will find contemporary homes, colonials, ranches, tri-levels, quads, and even some bi-level homes on the lakes. There will be homes from many different decades, styles, and sizes to chose from.
The 6 premier West Bloomfield lakes that are all sports and larger are:
- Cass Lake (Public)
- Middle Straits Lake (public)
- Orchard (public)
- Pine Lake
- Union Lake (Public)
- Upper Straits Lake
- Walnut Lake
Here is a list of the biggest all sports lakes in West Bloomfield. This list will include indepth info about each of the lakes and more pictures of the lakes. The private lakes are going to be a little less crowded (especially on the weekends and holidays) Middle Straits Lake is not going to get a lot of non lake resident traffic because the parking for the boat launch is very small. Cass Lake, Union Lake, and Orchard Lake have good sized parking lots for non lake residents. So some of these public W Bloomfield lakes can be quite busy on the weekends and holidays.
All six of these West Bloomfield all sports lakes are big enough for any water activity you have in mind. Whether you are jet skiing or tubing there is plenty of space to turn around and have some good long runs in between. Great inland lakes to have fun on.
Private Non Motor All Sports Lakes
There are several quiet larger private West Bloomfield lakes that are either non-motorized, electric motor only, or only paddle powered.
- Green Lake
- Hammond Lake
- Turtle Lake
These lakes are private so the home owners on the lake are very protective of the lake and enforce the lake rules. You are going to find a very peaceful lake. Many times there won’t even be anybody out on these lakes during the week. If you are looking to get away from it all and just love the view of water this may be a lake you will enjoy. Green Lake is about a 100 acres which is big enough for small sailboats too.
